A few years ago, I thought I was superwoman.
I was juggling motherhood, my marriage, my 9-5 career, my entrepreneurial ventures, and managing my mom’s care.
But you know what? That super woman B.S got old fast and it really caught up with me. Like I mean, I got Hand Foot Mouth Disease because my immune system was that compromised. It was a mess! I was tapped out, overwhelmed, and in need of help. I knew that if I didn’t make changes, I was about to have a nervous breakdown.
So what did I do?
I slowed down.
I took a deep breath and took inventory of everything in my life. And I realized that trying to do this thing called life without more support was not cute. Even with a supportive husband by my side, I needed more help. I needed help with my health, I needed help with my mom, and I even needed help with my kids.
Once I finally wrapped my brain around that concept, I began to make changes. I began to focus more on my needs.
I don’t think so. I think of it more as self-preservation. I knew that being a hot mess would never lead to the life I wanted to live, so I had to change things–not just for my sake but for the sake of the people I love most.
In that moment, I decided to do one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. I started asking for and accepting help at every turn. I started building relationships with new and seasoned moms. I started working out more. I started looking at food differently. I started setting goals and actually crushing those goals. I started to make self-care a priority. And I started saying NO a lot more, because saying yes to everything leads to an early grave.
And you know what?
It feels damn good.
I realized that my healthiest life was actually my happiest life. And when I say healthy, I am not just talking about fitness and nutrition, although those things do matter a lot. I am also talking about mental health management, self-care, building community, and changing habits. I am talking about a holistic view of health because I now know that when one area of my life is a hot mess, every other area soon follows–whether I want it to or not.
And because I have traveled this journey to wellness and I have made it to the other side a better person than I was before, I want to help other moms do the same. I want all the working moms out there to know that if they can get to a place where their wellness is more important than the 101 other things that try to capture their attention daily, they will actually win in life.
They will be healthier AND happier.
So my way of helping is hosting a Wellness Symposium for working mothers this fall. I know how hard it is to juggle work, family responsibilities, everything else on our plates, and our health. It can be brutal. Probably the hardest juggling act you will ever embark on.
But hard doesn’t mean impossible. You can do this and do it successfully.
And I have to tell you that my personal experience isn’t the only thing that’s inspired me to host this event. My Mom is the real inspiration behind it. A woman who sacrificed too much to raise us well and is now suffering the price, I want women to realize now that they can make a shift so they don’t follow my mom’s path. You can raise happy, well-adjusted kids who love life without sacrificing your health and wellness.
Hear me when I say that the very best gift you can give your kids years from now is a healthy, happy YOU. Do you really want your 20-something or 30-something year old kids taking you to medical appointments all the time? Do you want them worrying about your mental state? Do you want them to receive a call that you attempted suicide?
I know the answer to do those questions because I know how much you love your kids. I know that you don’t want them crying because you are slowly falling apart. You want them to see you happy because you want to see them happy. I wish my mom knew years ago how much her happiness mattered to me.

And at the end of the day, I can’t say I have ever met a woman who doesn’t want good health and happiness. Those desires are universal. None of us want to leave earth earlier than we should, and none of us want to feel like we are just tolerating a life that is less than what we desire.
We want more than that. We deserve more than that.
