Throwback: Chillin with my BFF in Spain in 2007

Am I the only one who misses Joan, Maya, Lynn and Toni?  I can’t be, right?  Man, I really loved that show. I was sad when Toni left and even sadder when the show ended. But, alas, it was just a show. Thank goodness I have real girlfriends and not just chicks on TV. Oh, and you are probably wondering which “girlfriend” I am most like (okay, maybe you weren’t wondering but I’ll share anyway). I took this quiz on BuzzFeed and it said I was most like Toni.  Shocked the mess out of me because I never would have done Todd dirty like that, but oh well.  I was thinking I was more of a Joan/Maya hybrid, but whatever.  Take the quiz yourself and  tell me who you are.

So where am I going with all of the Girlfriends reminiscing?  Well, today is National Girlfriends Day, a day to pay tribute to the friendships in our lives. In honor of this day, I am going to share a few things that I think make my closest girlfriends awesome. Friendships don’t need to be perfect–they just need to be real. I am eternally grateful for some of the realest friends a chick could ask for. You know who you are.

Here are ten things that make my homegirls all that and a bag of BBQ chips:

  • They know how to make me laugh, even when ish in my life is effed up.
  • They understand me in a way that few people can.
  • They are able to disagree with me COMPLETELY without letting it ruin our friendship.
  • They know that even in my ugliest moments, my heart is always in the right place.
  • I can call them at 3am if I need them and they will come to me–no questions asked.
  • My pain is their pain.
  • My victories belong to them too.
  • They know I can be crazy, and they love me anyway.
  • They love my kids like their own.
  • They never–and I mean NEVER–want anything but the ABSOLUTE best for me.

I know that true friendships can be hard to find, so I have been blessed. I also know that friendships are like marriages. You gotta put the work in for this thing to last.  Some last forever, and some are just for a season. I hope the friendships I have with the phenomenal women I know can last forever. I also hope I meet more phenomenal women during this journey we call life.  You can definitely have to many random people in your life, but you can never, ever have too many ride-or-die friends.

Be good to yourselves, and to your friends, today.
