Cold + Flu season is a pain in the butt. Especially since it interferes with my favorite time of the year. I love the fall and winter months. Cooler weather, family gatherings, great food, falling leaves. and snow flurries galore. It really does make me happy. But stuffy noses and the constant coughing–well my family could really go without all of that stuff.

But if you’re a mom like me, you know that wishing cold and flu symptoms away won’t work. No matter how sick you are, you still have to be there for your family. And no matter how sick they are, you still have to patiently find a way to bring them relief and comfort. There’s no way around it.

So what can you do to prepare your family for this cold + flu season?

Eat Healthy Foods

Can I be corny? As if I need your permission…LOL. Listen. You are what you eat. It’s a corny line with some serious truth to it. If you eat foods that are not filled with the nutrients you need to keep you in optimal health, there is a good chance you will compromise your immune system and make yourself more susceptible to illness. By making healthier food choices for your entire family, everyone is better equipped to deal with those fall and winter germs.

Get Plenty of Rest

Tired kids (and adults) lead to sick kids (and adults). We all need rest. Unfortunately, many of us are getting less sleep than we need. When your body is tired, you are more likely to get sick. I know this from experience. Years ago, I would spend late nights working on projects. I was depriving my body of much-needed rest and I got sick very frequently. I also know that letting my kids stay up way beyond their bedtimes is a sure way to set them for catching a cold (or something worse).

Stay Hydrated

One of the best ways to fight viruses is through consistent hydration. Your body needs fluid when a virus attacks. Give your body what it needs by drinking plenty of water. You can also drink other fluids with vitamin C as long as you stay clear of anything with way too much sugar.

Get the Right Medicine and Don’t Wait

As a mom, I always have a tough time determining what’s safe for my kids to consume. I also have concerns about what my husband and I consume as well. I was so happy when I discovered Boiron products. I currently us Children’s Chestal Cold & Cough and Children’s Chestal Honey Cough & Chest Congestion. Using Oscillococcinum is a great way to stop the flu in its tracks and help you feel better before things get out of control.
