11 Tips to Help You Be Both a Good Mom and a Good Wife

Balancing a marriage and motherhood can be very challenging.  For many women, it often seems difficult to be great at one and still find the energy to be great at the other. And truthfully, the role that tends to suffer most is being a wife. I think it’s possible for us to develop a sense of balance that allows us to be great in both roles.  Is it going to be easy?  Definitely not, but I think it is very possible.  The mistake that most women make is giving too much of themselves in an effort to make everyone...

What Does It Mean to Get RADICAL?

I’ve had years in the past where I have boldly declared that it was going to be My Year.  When I said it I meant it, because I wanted to reach my goals and end the year feeling like I was on top of the world.  Unfortunately, I let life get in the way far too many times and I would always end the year feeling like I came up short.  Maybe it was a stressful job, maybe I wasn’t performing at my best because I wasn’t taking care of myself, or maybe it was the health of a loved one that pulled me away from accomplishing my goals.  It does’t really matter what it was, though.  What matters is that I let “it” take the lead and redirect my life. That’s not happening to me this year. What I have realized is that life happens, and no matter what my BIG plans are, life will just keep happening.  That’s the way it goes. So, I have entered this year asking myself, “can you really reach all of your goals this year, no matter what life throws your way?”  My answer is, “I absolutely can.  This is my year to get RADICAL.”  So what does it mean to get radical?  For me it means that I am on a mission to reach my goals and I am prepared to make sure...

Headed Home for a Run

A few weeks ago, I decided that I needed to lace up and get back into the running game.  As usual, I went ahead and also decided to train for a race.  A 5k?  Of course not — that makes too much sense.  I decided that I would go big or keep my ass at home, so I figured a half marathon would make perfect sense (I know, I’m buggin’).  And, not only did I make this decision, but I boldly shared it with my Facebook friends and even got a couple of people I’m cool with to commit...

Why I Still Believe in Marriage

I will be honest.  I always wanted to get married.  It wasn’t because I felt like being married would complete me because I felt complete prior to my union (I’m a Brooklyn girl who grew up with a good dose of ‘tude and never believed that anyone could complete her).  I wanted to get married because I believed that choosing the right mate would complement me and enhance my life in a meaningful way.  I believed that embarking on this journey called marriage with a person I love and admire would change my life and make me a better person.  I knew that creating a solid partnership with someone shared my values would give me a life that I truly wanted to live.  I was right. I have been married for over five years.  In that time we have experienced our share of rough waters and our share of smooth sailing.  It’s to be expected. Sharing your entire life with another person is no easy feat and nothing in our lives truly prepares us for what that bond means.  Sure, we think we know what we are getting ourselves into, but I don’t think I truly knew.  I figured it out along the way. There are so many negative images and statistics about marriage.  I am not trying to minimize what the stats mean because divorce is a challenging...

What Will I Be Saying on December 31, 2014?

I have had an incredibly challenging first few days of the year. Life has a way of reminding us that despite all of our plans, things just happen and  we can’t control it all.  I have learned, however, that  although I cannot control what the universe throws my way, I can control my reaction to it.  So despite tears and moments of incredible frustration and disappointment, I have realized that I can’t let anyone or anything steal my joy or derail my plans.  I must remain in control of my destiny.  I must remain focused. I had big plans...
